Eivind Hagerup’s blog on game design

Ventures into games and the industry

About

I’m Eivind Røbekk Hagerup, a Game Designer from Molde, Norway. Computer games have been a huge part of my life since I got my Commodore 64, and at a very young age I decided that one day, I would work with games. My main interests are in game design and narratives, but I’m also passionate about about games development in general.

These days, I am working as a Game Design intern at Daedalic Entertainment, a one year-old developer and publisher situated in Hamburg, Germany. There, I am working and design, puzzles and scripting for adventure games, made in glorius hand-painted 2D graphics.

During my studies at Hedmark University College, I and two others produced a demo prototype for our adventure Trollblod, a computer game with basis in Norwegian folklore and mythology. The game won #1 Best Web Game and the Jury’s Honourary Award at Norwegian Game Awards 2008. It was also awarded with two #2 spots in Hamar Game Challenge.

I have been a news writer for Adventure Gamers for several years. I have also been writing for several other websites for shorter periods of time.

This blog did previously serve as my documentation in the course “Selvbestemt pensum” at Hedmark University College. In this assignment, I wrote about game design and game design principles, and tried to create some sort of “Game Design Handbook” mostly for my own benefit. But perhaps it could be of use to others as well.

Even earlier, this blog was dedicated to the assignment “The Twilight Zone”, which was given in the course Konseptkunst II at Hedmark University College. In short, the task was about exploring various sensory experiences, and to come up with a work of art that touched the subject of the twilight zone.
